Remote Teaching and Learning

Ensuring Access

At St. Peter's, access to remote provision has been our highest priority to reduce the impact of lost learning for our children.  Throughout the pandemic, we strived to ensure continuity and familiarity for our cohorts, with detailed planning in place to ensure that we could respond with speed should a year or pod be closed during the 2020-21 academic year.

By utilising our Google platform, staff were able to deliver high quality videos for children to access from home.  The decision was made for staff to pre-record lessons which would then enable families with multiple children to create their own timetable of home learning to suit their IT access needs.  Despite the challenges, remote education has made a significant contribution to enabling our pupils to continue to learn and progress. We continue to learn from our experiences and will innovate, take on board pupil and parent feedback and improve our provision.  Life at St. Peter’s has adapted to incorporate lessons learned into our future, with many year groups allocating homework through our digital platforms of Google and via Seesaw.

Access to Appropriate Technology

Through acquiring laptops from the Government scheme, loaning out our in-school resources and via donations, all children at St. Peter’s have access to an appropriate device that enhances their remote learning experience.  Similarly, via our Friends of St. Peter’s parents support group, funding for 15 iPads ensures our younger children have an appropriate device for their learning.

Interactive platforms

Through Google Classroom as our Interactive Platform supported by Seesaw, we are able to create virtual classrooms enabling a single point of access for all lessons and resources which allows our teachers to host recorded explanations and activities.  This has been essential in providing continuity for our students.
