Last half term Mrs Macklin, one of our Teaching Assistants, returned to Uganda with a team of 12 adults to work with 3 schools:
ROJ Lady Grace
The main focus of this year's visit was to teach groups of past pupils - 16-18 year olds, vocational skills to help them to learn a trade.
The chosen groups of boys and girls either learnt joinery or sewing skills respectively. Dresses were made for younger children, either for their families or for friends, and desks and cupboards were made for classrooms. Many teachers do not have desks or storage facilities.
Fabulous benches were made once the necessary skills were perfected and the hope is that these will be sold in Kampala, with Pastor Fred's support to raise money for the schools.
Class workshops also took place across each school to encourage pupil's confidence and self esteem. These workshops were requested by Pastor Fred following his visits to St Peter's as he was very impressed with how our pupils interacted with their teachers and were not afraid to share their opinions.
None of this wold of been possible without the generous donations made by you for events such as the bring and buy sale, collections following the school production etc.
Equipment purchased with this money included 4 singer sewing machines, materials, work benches, wood, tools, classroom stationery and so much more. It's so rewarding and satisfying to see how much progress and rebuilding has been made at the 3 schools since the partnership began.
Once again, a HUGE thank you!
