Sporting Competitions

At St. Peter's we encourage our children to be as active as possible, involving them in Active Lunchtime sessions, after school clubs, friendly and competitive matches against other schools as well as weekly curriculum PE and Outdoor Games lessons.

For our younger children (Foundation and KS1), the majority of sporting activities available are held within school as after school clubs although there are some opportunities for KS1 children to take part in friendly events with other schools throughout the year.

As children move into KS2, we offer a wide range of recreational, friendly and competitive sports, for both individuals teams, including rugby, basketball, netball, dance, hockey, football, tennis, curling, gymnastics, judo, fencing, athletics, golf, cricket, cross country, boccia and swimming.

For friendly competitions, all children in the relevant age group are invited to register their interest and places are allocated to ensure that everyone who expresses an interest in taking part is given an opportunity to do so throughout the year. Where matches are competitive and schools are required to select their best players, teachers and sports apprentices hold open trials at break or lunch time, allowing all pupils in the relevant age group to express their interest in becoming part of the team; from these trials the requisite number of competitors is selected. Where possible, these trials are completed as part of curricular PE sessions to ensure that as many pupils as possible are part of the selection process.
