Overview
Foundation subjects are the remaining subjects which form the basis of the National Curriculum alongside the compulsory core subjects (English, Mathematics, Science and, in the case of faith schools such as St Peter's, RE).
Foundation subjects at St.Peter’s are taught through a cross-curricular, thematic approach whereby areas of the curriculum are connected together and integrated within a topic. This thematic approach allows for a cohesive curriculum to be taught and therefore children are able to apply their learning and skills throughout the school day providing more meaning and relevance to learning.
Topics are taught on a 2 year cycle and are specific to each year band and there is a new focus each term. Additionally, throughout the school year, children have the opportunity to develop skills further through themed weeks and mini-topics.
