Music at St Peter's

Curriculum Music:

Music at St Peter’s is thriving. All children take part in curriculum music lessons, mainly based on the music scheme – Charanga. They will get the chance to listen to a wide variety of music, and play percussion instruments, as well as compose and perform their own music.

You can read more about the Charanga scheme on their website (below):

Charanga - Primary music curriculum, Secondary & Instrumental music

Primary music curriculum, secondary and instrumental music resources for teachers and students.

Extra-Curricular Music:

From Year 3 upwards,  all children are offered the chance to have lessons in strings, brass, woodwind and piano. We also offer an after school guitar club. Any children learning orchestral instruments will be given the opportunity to join the school orchestra, once their teacher feels they are ready. We have a number of performances throughout the year, both in school and out of school. The orchestra is run by Mrs Charlesworth – our string teacher.

Concordia (school choir) – this is for any children in year 5 and 6. We meet once a week, after school, to rehearse. This is run by our music leader – Mrs Chetwood. We have a number of performances each year, and also perform with the Wirral Symphony Orchestra, for their annual Christmas concert at the Floral Pavilion Theatre.

As well as all the above, children experience a huge range of musical experiences during their time at St Peter's – we are currently arranging workshops with a very well known orchestra. Most importantly of all, music is accessible to every child in the school, a vital part of a broad and enriching curriculum.
