Life Skills

Rationale

At St Peter’s we want to ensure that our pupils receive a broad and balanced education that equips them with the skills and attributes that they need for the future.  This is achieved in two ways: through teaching the Programmes of Study detailed in the National Curriculum and through our Life Skills Curriculum.  By Life Skills we mean the skills that we believe our children need during their childhood and as adults, both in the workplace and in their personal lives.

How was our Life Skills Curriculum developed?

As a staff and with the support of our Governors, we agreed on the following life skills that we believe are important to our children in order for them to become effective local, national and global citizens:

  • Love of learning and emotional well being
  • Understanding my place in the world
  • Respect
  • Teamwork

We agreed what this would look like within each year band, ensuring that our Christian Ethos, Vision Statement and British Values were at the very heart of our Life Skills Curriculum.  Each life skill was then incorporated into our existing curriculum.  Those life skills that did not naturally fall into our curriculum will be taught during a focused Life Skills Week, due to start in September 2018.
