Introduction

The St Peter's Governing Board is responsible for the strategic management of the school.  It ensures accountability to the local community, and acts as a  'critical friend', supporting the headteacher and Senior Leadership Team in achieving our school vision and living out our school values.

The governors determine the school budget, set attainment and achievement targets for the pupils each year, recruit the headteacher and assistant heads, and are responsible for the headteacher's annual performance management.

Through the work of a series of sub-committees (identified in the Committees document), as well as visits to school by governors with specific responsibilities, the governors develop a good understanding of the operation of the school, and can advise and challenge the head on any aspect of the school's work.

The Full Governing Board normally meets four times a year.

As a Voluntary Aided Church of England school, our governing body includes:

  • Foundation Governors (members of St Peter's or Church of the Good Shepherd Churches)
  • Local Authority Governor Representative (appointed by the Local Authority)
  • Parent Governors (elected by the parents of children currently attending the school; these governors must have a child at the school at the time of the election)
  • Headteacher Governor
  • Staff Governor (a member of the school's staff, elected by the staff)
  • Clerk to the Governors (takes minutes of meetings, circulates agendas and other information, etc.)
