On Thursday 13th October, St. Peter’s took 3 teams of children to the Wirral Tag Rugby Festival at Birkenhead Park Rugby Club.
By taking 3 teams, and in total 34 children, it meant that all those children who had been attending the lunchtime club over the past few weeks were able to play.
After having their faces painted with the Brazilian flag (the country our school had been given to represent) we set off for an enjoyable afternoon of rugby. We were placed in two pools with the A and C Team in the same team and having to play each other! All the games were very competitive with close score lines and all 3 teams displayed some fantastic try scoring and tagging skills.
At the end of the pool games, St. Peter’s C Team had finished 4th, B Team 2nd and A first in their group. This meant that both the A and B had made it through to the semi-finals – against each other! A superb game took place between two very enthusiastic teams with the A team running out victorious.
The B team then played in a 3rd/4th place playoff against Our Lady St. Edwards which ended in a draw and the B team came joint 3rd overall.
The A team played in the final against Our Lady of Pity. An end to end game followed with one team scoring and then the other team returning the try.
Some superb tagging at the end of the game meant that the final score was 4-3 to St. Peter’s. It was a fantastic game and meant that St. Peter’s A finished 1st.
A big thank you to all the parents who helped with transport and stayed to support the team and to Mrs Jordan and Mr Westaway for their help.
Well done to all three teams for their superb skills and attitude.
