Big Science Event

During Creativity Week in May, all of Y5/6 were given the theme of 'In the Kitchen' and in groups of 4 they had to come up with a question that they could investigate scientifically. There were lots of interesting ideas and the children worked brilliantly together to plan their test, complete the experiment and explain what they had found out. Mrs Briggs and Mr Allport from West Kirby Grammar School chose a winner from each class and from that we chose our outright winners. On Tuesday 8th June, they represented the school at the Big Science Event final at Discovery CLC where they had to present their work to 5 judges and explain what they had done. The judges then asked them some pretty tough questions about what they had found out.

I am very pleased to report that our pupils were given third place out of 15 schools for their investigation, 'If you covered cut apples in lemon juice, golden syrup, salt water or nothing, which one would go brown first?' and they won a goody bag for themselves and some science equipment for the school. They were fantastic on the day but also the rest of 5/6 were also brilliant in terms of imaginative scientific questions and the way they worked together and it was very hard to choose our winners. Well done again to our winning team.
